Amazon Haul

I went a bit crazy on Amazon last night and took great advantage of their “buy 3 books for £10” deal – after only going on there to order The Cuckoo’s Nest. I also stayed up until 1am finishing “Hothouse Flower” by Lucinda Riley (review to come) so I’m now in need of the next story to lighten the hangover from the last one.

The Rosie Effect – Graeme Simsion

I enjoyed the first in this series, The Rosie Project, but not as much as I thought I would. Possibly because it had so much hype, I was expecting “laugh out loud funny” which it had promised, but although it made me smile, that was the extent of the hilarity. However, I enjoyed the story and am intrigued to find out what’s next in store for Rosie and Dom and their entwined lives will hopefully be just as awkwardly ensightful about what it’s like to live with aspergers.

Yes, it’s been made into a film. Yes, i’ve only just got around to buying it. Yes, jump on the bandwagon…blah, blah blah. However, it wouldn’t have been made into a film if it was crap, and I’ve heard such good things about this book I’m quite excited to uncover the apparently harrowing and chilling story. I’m a bit of a wuss at the best of times, and get so into books I’m a little nervous, but it’s been on my reading radar for months and i’m pleased I took the opportunity to get it.

The original reason I went onto Amazon in the first place to buy anything was to find a copy of The Cuckoo’s Calling (the first in the series). I’d heard it was a brilliant read before it was secretly revealed that it was actually J.K. using a pseudonym – now that I’d discovered that I was even more intrigued!
