How to make the perfect cocktail || GB Gin & Tonic

Hey, what do you know, it’s Friday!!

I’m currently sat on the train with a colleague watching a stag party rev up in front of us with gin and tonics on their way somewhere fun. We’re seemingly heading to the back of beyond as it’s one of those little 2 carriage babes carrying about a million people that should take 20 minutes and be direct but somehow manages to extend the would-be-short journey to every minute village station and takes over an hour. Can’#t complain too much, a morning away from my desk followed by lunch at ZaZa Bazaar on the company isn’t too shabby!

What are you all up to this weekend? All of the fun? I’m not entirely sure yet of our plans. I’ve got a Jamberry nail wrap party thing tonight, a morning in town on my own tomorrow (hello holiday shopping I’m looking at you…!!) and the anticipation of the first weekend in ages where we can both decide exactly what we want to do for 2 days rather than being constrained by commitments.

Usually on a Friday I will drive straight from work to Plymouth, which takes about an hour and a half on a good day, getting me to the door for just after 7pm. Here’s the bit where I know I’m a lucky little thing – I’m more often than not greeted with a freshly poured drink and tea practically on the table. Adam knows how to treat a lady, and there’s nothing I could wish for more than an ice cold gin and tonic after a long week at work!

Last week, this was especially lovely as I got to add a new gin to my repertoire- Williams Chase Elegant Gin. The company sent through a little gift box with 3 of their selection inside. Potato vodka, marmalade vodka and British gin. In a beautiful GB themed box, I love the design and the little touches. From the book themed packaging, to the insert of cocktail recipes and the three lovely long bottles.

I really wanted to try out the marmalade vodka as I envisaged it to be really tasty and fruity, but annoyingly didn’t have all the necessary ingredients the recipe for the gimlet as suggested. This didn’t stop me having a cheeky sip of it neat though (sorry Adam!). Though I do enjoy vodka on occasions, my favourite “cocktail” if you can call it that, and my drink of choice for most situations, is gin. Mothers ruin maybe, but I love it!

I liked the appley fruity base notes, the strong botanical combination with lemon peel and elderflower and the sharp crisp aftertaste. Just the right balance between fruity and dry. The cocktail book suggested it would pair well with lime and ginger, one of the best G&T combinations I can think of! With fever tree tonic to top it off, and plenty of ice, this gin cocktail, though so simple to make, is an absolute winner for me every time!
