Four and a half years on, Adam and I are still dating.

I mean, we have been together long enough, live together and have bought a house together, but that doesn’t stop us going on dates.

Do you ever feel like you get into the same old habits in your relationship? Nights in become far more frequent than getting dolled up and going for a meal out. Days spent doing chores or DIY take over your weekends rather than going on day trips or for spontaneous adventures. Making that little bit of extra effort can make all the world of difference and I think it’s really important to keep dating, no matter how long you’ve been together.

We don’t even manage to do this every week, or even every month, but sometimes allowing yourselves a break to just hang out together, see something new, eat some good food and just chat properly is so refreshing.

Recently one of my favourite dates we’ve had was blog related (which, actually, a lot of our adventures revolve around fun things I’m invited to). We had a personal invite to check out the new Pizza Express that has opened in Newquay, right on top of the cliff overlooking the beach. Naturally, pizza, local ciders and the seaside can’t be turned down, right?!

The location is just perfect, with easy free parking nearby, overlooking the whole of the beach in part of the Rocklands building. Inside, the restaurant itself is lovely, with on trend copper lighting, amazing green tiles that I’m keen to steal for when we do our kitchen, and huge glass windows with panoramic views of the sea. What more could you want from a dating location?

Well, other than the food!

Which, by the way, made me really excited as it was put down in front of me. Asking for suggestions from our really friendly waitress, we had both decided we’d try something we’ve never had before (because at Pizza Express I nearly always go back to my fav babe, the pollo ad astra!). To drink, I fancied the gin spritz with cucumber and mint. Admittedly I was a little bit disappointed it was just gin with the Belvoir cucumber and mint presse, though I love both, it seemed a little steep for £6.55. Adam also went for a different drink to our usual order, with a local Cornish cider (great idea for a small local theme for the restaurant, serving local beers and ciders!). His was delicious, and not one I’ve tried before. A lovely medium crisp cider from the Cornwall Cider co.

Skipping the starters for fear of ending up rolling out of the restaurant, our mains were recommended by the waitress. I was highly impressed with my Romana Padana  and Adam tried the Diavolo on a gluten free base (as he’s been avoiding wheat and gluten for quite a few months). My base was crispy, with a good portion of toppings – goats cheese, caramelised onions, spinach, red onions and garlic oil. Whilst Adam’s was slightly smaller, he proclaimed it delicious and spicy with hot spiced beef, pepperoni, mozzarella, tomato, green pepper, red onion and Tabasco, with a choice of hot green, Roquito or jalapeño peppers. We also splashed out and opted for a side of polenta chips, which were delicious, covered in rosemary and cheese and with a little pot of honey mustard dipping sauce.

For pudding, as there aren’t a huge number of GF options, Adam decided on a coffee with the mini treat of figs in a cinnamon and white wine spiced syrup with mascarpone, which was a great option for someone who doesn’t love a pudding. However, as someone who really does, oh mumma, I chose their new lemon bundt cake. to mix it up I also requested the coconut dairy free ice cream instead of vanilla gelato, which was a success, I can tell you! I actually could have done with a sharper zestier flavour in the sponge, as I like a lemon drizzle to punch you in the face with lemons, but the combination with the coconut was still brilliant!

As a busy couple, it was so nice to have an opportunity for a weekend date, trying out my new camera together (eeeeee!) and just getting out and about for an explore around the Cornish coast!

No matter how long you’ve been with your other half, it’s so important to never stop dating, whether its taking the time for a fancy floor picnic and a film together in your living room, going out for a meal, or pushing the boat out and booking an airBnB for the weekend.

Since we’ve been together we’ve made an effort to continue dating, which I know a lot of couples also do with the infamous “date night” and I hope we continue doing the same!
