Autumn Woodfest || RHS Rosemoor

A few weekends ago we had the chance to visit RHS Rosemoor‘s Autumn Woodfest.

A) Because who doesn’t love a wonder around some beautiful gardens, craft stalls and wood themed displays and

B) My grandma lives pretty close by and two of my aunties and uncle were staying with her. Anyone for a family day out?!

Having not been to Rosemoor since I was a child, I couldn’t really remember it. I also expected that since it was October. surely most of the summer blooms would be long gone and the gardens would instead be slowing down for winter. I was wrong about this and we were pleasantly surprised by the abundance of colour and flowers still brightening every turn.

Starting over by the STIHL demonstrations in the Stream Field, they were busy showing the ease of the battery powered garden tool range – watching him cut through that log like a hot knife through butter! We even got a little go with some of them…cue Adam getting excited that he’d been given a cap and the fact he got to go behind the safety fence!

Further into the field, there was an amazing chainsaw sculpture demonstration where in just a few short hours that we were there, a pine cone, a halloween pumpkin and an owl were all crafted. Literally amazing skills, you’d never guess they’d been made entirely using chainsaws!

The final demonstration was of tree climbing. I really did not know what to expect, but actually it was so interesting watching the arboriculturalists scale up into the huge branches. Shame there were no chances to try that one ourselves…!

Lunch was also a pleasant surprise seeing as the restaurant cater very well for food allergies (seeing as between us there were a few…) and I happily sat munching on a chicken pesto panini. It’s so rare and lovely to just sit and chat with a few family members rather than in a bigger group. We wondered the beautifully kept gardens, meandered around the wood craft tent and rounded it all off in the afternoon with a tasty piece of cake and a cuppa. Adam and I even managed to sneak in some outfit photos in the forest that runs along the bottom of the gardens.

I was so impressed by Rosemoor, even in Autumn when I had expected it to be less in bloom there was so much to see. The hedges are literally pristine, the fruit vegetable and herb gardens are complete #gardengoals for our new house and there were still flowers of all colours and varieties bursting into life everywhere you looked. If you’re in Devon and want somewhere that will entertain anyone aged from tiny toddlers to your granny, it’s definitely worth considering for a beautiful and peaceful day out!
